Safeguarding Policy Statement

  • The safety, well-being and protection of children and vulnerable adults is the paramount consideration in all decisions made about safeguarding. 
  • The Group Chair will act as the Safeguarding Lead for the Organisation (DSL) and will ensure that all practitioners members’ safeguarding (child and adult) and child protection training is up to date with certificates available on request
  • All practitioners hold an up to date enhanced DBS disclosure and are signed up to the DBS update service 

Where operating as a commissioned service: 

  • Practitioners will ensure that they are familiar with the setting safeguarding policy
  • Practitioners will abide by the setting safeguarding policy
  • Practitioners will ensure that they are aware of the names of the Designated Safeguarding Lead in that setting
  • Any safeguarding concerns will be raised to the setting’s safeguarding lead followed by informing Remember Rhythm’s safeguarding lead. The safeguarding leads will liaise, keep records and follow the correct procedures outlined in Remember Rhythm and the setting safeguarding policies.

  • Roles and responsibilities with regard to safeguarding will be clearly stated in the partnership agreement made between  Remember Rhythm and the setting 

Child and Adult Safeguarding Policy and procedures 

All practitioners recognise  types of abuse/harm that if suspected will be reported to the Designated Safeguarding Lead for the commissioning organization.  

or in the event that they are not be available the duty social worker at the relevant local Multi Agency Safeguarding Hub. 

The types and indicators of abuse of children and adults  are: 

    • Physical abuse, domestic violence or abuse
    • Psychological or Emotional abuse
    • Sexual abuse
    • Neglect and acts of omission
    • Self-neglect
    • Financial or material abuse
    • Modern slavery
    • Discriminatory abuse
    • Organisational or institutional abuse 

In the event of a disclosure of harm the following will happen:

  • The individuals  right to time, space and privacy will be respected
  • The practitioners will not interrogate or ask leading questions. 
  • The individual  will be informed that the Designated Safeguarding Lead or the Duty Social Worker at the MASH will need to be informed of the disclosure
  • To avoid the possibility of having to repeat distressing matters to several people, the individual  will be encouraged and supported to tell the designated safeguarding lead directly, and in their own words. 
  • The practitioners may stay with the individual  for support if appropriate and if requested by the individual  or the designated safeguarding lead.

In the event of a suspicion of harm, the following will happen: 

  • The individual’s  right to time, space and privacy will be respected
  • Practitioners will not interrogate or ask leading questions. 
  • The individual  will be informed that the designated safeguarding lead or the Duty Social Worker will need to be informed 
  • The designated safeguarding lead at the organisation (or Duty Social Worker at the MASH) will be informed in person of the concern prior to the end of the working day where possible, and a written transcript of the concern provided. 
  • In addition, all concerns will be logged by the DSL for Remember Rhythm  

In the event of a suspicion of immediate danger or risk of harm, Practitioners will report the matter to the Police immediately. 

Reporting procedures are contained in Appendix one. 

Training 

All practitioners are required to attend training on Safeguarding Children and Vulnerable adults to Level 3 as part of their induction process and will attend refresher training on an annual basis. 

The delivery and management team will  renew their safeguarding training on an annual basis.  

Safeguarding will be a feature of ongoing team training and review, and will feature in all planning and development meetings.  

Practitioner session reflection notes will include reflections on safeguarding concerns.  

Safer Recruitment Practices  

Our Recruitment procedure will include the following: 

2 written work references followed up by a phone call to ensure legitimacy. 

 1 written personal reference to be followed up by a phone call to ensure legitimacy 

Photo ID check and address check. 

All practitioners must hold an Enhanced DBS check that is less than one year old or be registered with the update service Formal interview.

Formal interview questions will include.

1) What’s your understanding of safeguarding?

2) What’s your experience with safeguarding in the workplace?

3) What steps would you take if you were concerned there was a safeguarding issue?

The recruitment team will attend Safer Recruitment Training on a yearly basis. 

This policy will be reviewed and revised at yearly intervals by the DSL and management Team.
